MAKING HISTORY...Cain became the 1st pitcher in the Giants’ 130-year history to throw a 1-hit shutout in the team’s home opener...the last Major Leaguer to do that was Cleve- land’s Rick Waits in 1979...the last National Leaguer to accomplish this was the Cubs’ Hippo Vaughn in 1918 (Elias).
ELIAS SAYS...Cain became the 2nd-straight Giants pitcher to take a no-hitter into the 6th inning as Madison Bumgarner did the same in Denver on Thursday...according to Elias, the last 3 times that a big league team has seen its starters hold opponents without a hit in each of two straight games has been the Giants...Ryan Vogelsong and Tim Lincecum did it in May of last year, and Lincecum and Jonathan Sanchez did it in July 2009.
GETTING OFFENSIVE...The Giants have scored 4-or-more runs in all 7 games this year marking the 1st time the franchise has done that to begin a season since 2003 (did it in 9-straight).
