Melky Cabrera shook AT&T Park with his 51st hit tonight which tied him with Randy Winn for the SF-era record for most hits in a month – The last Giants player with at least 50 hits in a calendar month before Winn was Bill Terry (54 in August 1932). Prior to Cabrera, the last MLB player with 50+ hits in a single month was Carl Crawford who had 50 hits in Aug. of 2007 with Tampa Bay.

MELKY’S MAY…OF Melky Cabrera established a San Francisco era record for the most hits in the month of May with his 50th hit last night…he surpassed Willie Mays, who had 49 in May of 1958…Cabrera’s 50 hits this month are the 2nd-most in a calendar month in SF-era history, just 1 shy of Randy Winn, who holds the SF-era record with 51 hits in September of 2005… the last Giants player with at least 50 hits in a calendar month before Winn was Bill Terry (54 in August 1932).

JOAQUIN ARIAS… Has hit safely in 7 of his last 9 games, batting .297 (11-for-37) with a 2B, 3B, HR and 3 RBI…After having his contract purchased from triple-A Fresno on April 25, he has started 27 of SF’s 33 games and has hit safely in 19 of 27 starts.

RUN PRODUCERS…Catchers Buster Posey (23 RBI) and Hector Sanchez (16 RBI) have combined for 39 RBI while catching for the Giants this season…that’s the most combined RBI among catchers on one team in the big leagues so far this year.

VOGELSONG’S HOME COOKING…Since last season, RHP Ryan Vogelsong has fashioned an 8-8 record with a 1.98 ERA (30er, 136.1ip) in 21 games (20 starts) here at AT&T Park…he’s allowed more than 3 runs just once in that 21 game span, giving up 5 to the Pirates on Aug. 8…he’s allowed 2 runs-or-fewer in 16 of those 20 starts.

Memorial Day

Nick Kimmel throws the ceremonial first pitch.

In honor of Memorial Day the Giants saluted the military before playing a game against the Arizona Diamonbacks.  Nick Kimmel, a former Marine, threw the ceremonial first pitch, the SF Bay Area Joint Military Color Guard presented the colors and a flyover was performed by NSAWC NAS Fallon, Nevada and SFWP NAS Lemore Naval Airstation.  The Giants wore camouflage on their hats and fans showed their appreciation for our troops with American flags.  Barry Zito, the man behind the Strikeouts for Troops Foundation, took the mound and earned a win.
