Perfect!!!
HOP ON THE CAIN TRAIN…RHP Matt Cain threw the Giants’ 1st perfect game in 130 years as a club…it was the 22nd perfect game in MLB history and only Sandy Koufax can match his 14 strikeouts…SF’s 10 runs of support of Cain are the most ever in a perfecto…tonight was the 2nd-longest pefect game at 2:36, as David Wells threw his in 2:40 on May 17, 1998.
MORE PERFECT GAME INFO…Cain joined Johan Santana & the Mariners this month in throwing a no-hitter… the last month that saw as many as 3 no-hitters was June 1990 with 4…the only MLB seasons that have featured two perfect games in them are 1880 and 2010…Ted Barrett was also the home plate umpire for David Cone’s perfecto on July 18, 1999.

TONIGHT’S GAME…The San Francisco Giants host the Houston Astros in the 2nd game of this 3-game series…Giants’ right-hander Matt Cain (7-2, 2.41) will face Astros’ left-hander J.A. Happ (4-6, 4.54).

ABOUT LAST NIGHT…LHP Madison Bumgarner became just the 3rd Giants pitcher since 1900 to hit a home run and strike out at least a dozen batters in the same game. Juan Marichal accomplished the feat on Sept. 12, 1963 at New York-NL (HR, 13 Ks) and so did Mike Krukow on Aug. 13, 1985 vs. Houston (HR, 12 Ks) (Elias)… Bumgarner also became the 1st pitcher in the Majors to record 12-or-more-strikeouts and a hit homer in the same game since Chan Ho Park (HR, 13 Ks) did so on Sept. 29, 2000 at San Diego (w/LAD) (Elias).

CAIN IS ABLE…RHP Matt Cain (pictured here with Ryan Vogelsong and Chris Berman) has earned a win in each of his last 6 starts…with a win tonight he can match his longest career winning streak when he won a career-best 7 consecutive decisions from May 7-June 14, 2009… Cain’s win streak is currently the 2nd-longest active streak in the Majors.
