June 15th is Tim Lincecum’s birthday! Here are some Giants Gems about Tim from the 2012 Giants Media Guide – Happy Birthday Tim!
- Tim’s delivery is the creation of his father, Chris, who emphasized three fundamentals: 1) “tilt” – the turn of Tim’s shoulders toward the third base dugout, forcing him to pick up the target out of the corner of his left eye; 2) “dangle” – the downward thrust of his right arm as he turns toward home plate; and 3) “reach” – the violent forward propulsion that creates a stride that exceeds his height.
- The normal stride length for a pitcher is 77% to 87% of his height. Tim’s stride is 129%, or roughly 7 1⁄2 feet.
- Was given the nickname “The Franchise” by former Giants reliever Steve Kline.
- He is something of a human jukebox. He knows the lyrics to hundreds of songs, from Frank Sinatra to the Beatles to rap, country and techno. He once performed My Prerogative by Bobby Brown for a local Washington radio station when he was in college.
In honor of the US Open starting today at the Olympic Club we thought it would be a great idea to recognize the pro golfers who have watched some memorable baseball games at AT&T Park over the last few days.
On Tuesday night Rory McIlroy had a great time throwing out the first pitch and meeting the Giants players. Last night Dustin Johnson stopped by to throw out the first pitch and drive balls into McCovey Cove with Clay Hensley, Matt Cain and J.T. Snow during an event hosted by Taylor Made and Comcast SportsNet Bay Area.
