One Hit Wonder

Madison Bumgarner only allowed 1 hit with 8 strike outs and 2 walks tonight

Another Franchise Record hit the dust tonight when Madison Bumgarner pitched the fourth Giants shutout in a row.  With great defense by the Giants, the Reds were only able to get one hit, but the Giants were able to score 5 runs on their 9 hits, including a blast by Bumgarner in the 7th inning.  Bumgarner recorded his 10th win of the season, and with the Dodgers loss tonight the Giants are alone in first place for the first time this season.

BACK-TO-BACK-TO-BACK BLANKS…The Giants’ 3-consecutive shutouts of the Dodgers marked the 1st time since the club moved to San Francisco that they shut out an opponent in a series of 3-or-more games…their last such series was played in April 1954 against the Phillies, with complete-game shutouts by Marv Grissom, Sal Maglie and Johnny Antonelli…it was the 1st time in the history of the Giants-Dodgers rivalry that SF blanked LA for 3-straight contests (Elias).

Check out today’s complete game notes, which contain more stats than happy trails across the great divide.
