Together We’re Giant-Skills Clinic
The Giants community relations department invited a group of kids from the Third Street Community Center of San Jose to a skills clinic this morning with Joaquin Arias and Erwin Higueros. They learned about stretching, took infield, outfield and batting practice and ran the bases at the Jr. Giants Barry Bonds field.
Quick Hits for Friday, June 29, 2012 (Game 78)
TONIGHT’S GAME…The San Francisco Giants host the Cincinnati Reds in the 2nd game of this 4-game series…Giants’ right-hander Matt Cain (9-2, 2.27) will face Reds’ right-hander Mike Leake (2-5, 4.46).

THE GIANTS…moved into sole possession of 1st place in the National League West with a 5-0 win over Cincinnati last night…this is the 1st time SF has been alone in 1st place within the division since Aug. 9, 2011 (+0.5 game over Arizona).

ON THE MOUND…Bumgarner became just the 4th Giants pitcher age 22 or younger in the Live Ball Era (since 1920) to throw a shutout allowing 1 hit or fewer…the others are Mike McCormick in 1959, Juan Marichal in 1960 and Matt Cain in 2006 (Elias).

ANGEL PAGAN… Has had 3-separate hit streaks of 11-or-more games this season (11 games, 15, 20)… 24 of his last 28 hits have been singles… Is 4-for-his-last-7 with runners in scoring position, and is 19-for-67 (.284) overall… Is hitting .333 (49-for-147) here at AT&T Park this season…his 28-game home hit streak from April 14-June 4 was the longest in franchise history.

SCORELESS STREAKING…The Giants have not allowed a run in their last 36.0 innings, their longest scoreless inning streak in San Francisco-era history and the longest since the 1948 New York Giants held their opponents scoreless for 36-straight frames from July 26-30…the Giants are just 2.0-scoreless innings shy of matching the all-time franchise record, which is 38, accomplished by the 1903 and 1933 New York Giants (Elias).

FROM ELIAS…The Giants have now had a 1-hitter (Bumgarner last night) and a perfect game (Cain, June 13) this month…it’s the 1st time since 1900 that the Giants have ever accomplished that in a calendar month…the Mets also did it this month as Johan Santana had a no-hitter on June 1 and R.A. Dickey had a pair of 1-hitters on June 13 and 18.
