Matt Cain got his 10th win of the season as the Giants beat the Astros 3-2. With the third sweep of the season the Giants and the Dodgers loss the Giants are now 1.5 games in first place.

TODAY’S GAME…The San Francisco Giants host the Houston Astros in the final game of this 3-game series…Giants’ right-hander Matt Cain (9-3, 2.62) will face Astros’ right-hander Bud Norris (5-6, 4.71).

THE GIANTS…Slid into 1st place in the NL West with last night’s win coupled with the Dodgers’ loss… Have won 9 of their last 12 games here at AT&T Park.

GOING FOR THE SWEEP…This will be the 9th time this season that the Giants will enter the final game of a 3+ game series with the chance for a sweep… the Giants haven’t swept the Astros in a 3-game series since 2010 here at AT&T Park.

PRODUCING FROM BEHIND THE PLATE…Buster Posey and Hector Sanchez have combined for 63 RBI as catchers this season, a total that leads the Majors…Posey has 40 RBI as a catcher and Sanchez has 23.

HECTOR SANCHEZ… Had a career-high 4 hits last night (4-for-6, 2B and 2 RBI)…also recorded his 2nd career game-ending walk-off hit in the 12th to help the Giants win 3-2.

GREGOR BLANCO… Reached base safely 3 times last night…marked his 1st multi-walk game since May 24 at Miami… His 15 stolen bases this season are a career-high.

MELKY CABRERA… Leads Majors with 122 hits and 40 multi-hit games… His 39 multi-hit games were a new Giants franchise record prior to the All-Star break.
