Deep Into The Night
It was an exciting game that didn’t end in the Giants’ way, but with the Dodgers also losing in 11 innings the Giants are still 4.5 games in first place. D-backs 8 – Giants 6.

Quick Hits for Tuesday, September 4, 2012 (Game 136)
TONIGHT’S GAME…The San Francisco Giants host the Arizona Diamondbacks in the middle game of this 3-game series…Giants’ right-hander Ryan Vogelsong (12-7, 3.02) will face D’Backs’ right-hander Ian Kennedy (12-11, 4.27).

THE GIANTS…defeated the Diamondbacks 9-8 in 10.0 innings yesterday to kick off this 6-game, 7-day homestand against Arizona (1-0) and Los Angeles (this weekend)…are a season-high 19 games over .500…it’s the most games SF has been over the .500 mark since being 23 games over .500 at the conclusion of the 2010 campaign.

AGAINST THE WEST…The Giants’ 27 remaining games will come against NL West opponents…SF has posted a 28-17 (.622) record within the division, going 13-8 at home and 15-9 on the road…their .622 winning pct. against the NL West ranks as the 3rd-highest in the NL this season behind Cincinnati and St. Louis.

SCORING LATE…In yesterday’s victory, the Giants scored runs in the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th innings…according to Elias, it was just the 2nd time in the last 91 seasons that the Giants won a game in that fashion…their only other such win over that span (1922-2012) occurred on Sept. 10, 1997 vs. the Cardinals (scored 1 run in innings 7-10, won 7-6).

WHAT’S LEFT…The only current winning team that the Giants play the remainder of the season are the Dodgers, who they play 6 more times…their 21 remaining games will be against teams currently under .500 (Arizona, Colorado and San Diego)…SF is 29-30 (.492) against teams above .500 and 48-28 (.632) vs. teams below.

BEFORE AND AFTER…Prior to the All-Star break, SF batted .225 with RISP, which ranked 15th of 16th among NL teams…however, since the break, the Giants are hitting .311 in these situations, the highest clip in the NL…just in the last 2 games, the Giants have gone 15-for-25 (.600) with runners in scoring position.
