TODAY’S PITCHING MATCHUP… RHP Yusmeiro Petit (3-2, 5.08),  filling in for an injured Matt Cain, has gone 1-1 with a 7.08 ERA (16er, 20.1ip) in four starts this season…he’ll be facing the Cardinals for the  first time since a road loss with Arizona on July 19, 2009…the Giants will get their  first look at RHP Michael Wacha (3-3, 2.67), who has gone 3-0 with a 2.79 ERA in his six home starts this season…Wacha hasn’t allowed more than three runs in a start all year.

TODAY’S ROSTER MOVES… Prior to today’s game the Giants have placed RHP Matt Cain on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to May 22) with a right hamstring strain…Cain will be eligible to come off the disabled list when the Giants return home to face the Mets on Friday, June 6…OF Juan Perez (#2) has been recalled from triple-A Fresno.

PABLO AT THE PLATE… IF Pablo Sandoval enters tonight’s game with an eight-game hitting streak, batting .429 (12-for-28) during the stretch with four home runs and 13 RBI…he’s also driven in at least one run in each of his past eight games, the longest such streak of his career and the longest by a Giant since J.T. Snow had a RBI in eight consecutive games from April 8-18, 2003 (15 RBI).

TONIGHT’S PITCHING MATCHUP… RHP Ryan Vogelsong (3-2, 3.20), who carries a 13.2 scoreless innings streak into tonight’s game, has been one of the best pitchers in the Majors over the past month, fashioning a 3-1 record with a 1.35 ERA (6er, 40.0ip) in his past six starts…he’ll be opposed by LHP Jaime Garcia (1-0, 4.26), who earned his first win in more than a year this past Saturday at Cincinnati after allowing two runs in 5.2 innings…Garcia has been tough on the Giants in the past, going 2-1 with a 1.27 ERA (4er, 28.1ip) in four starts.
