TODAY’S PITCHING MATCHUP… RHP Yusmeiro Petit (3-2, 5.08),  filling in for an injured Matt Cain, has gone 1-1 with a 7.08 ERA (16er, 20.1ip) in four starts this season…he’ll be facing the Cardinals for the  first time since a road loss with Arizona on July 19, 2009…the Giants will get their  first look at RHP Michael Wacha (3-3, 2.67), who has gone 3-0 with a 2.79 ERA in his six home starts this season…Wacha hasn’t allowed more than three runs in a start all year.

TODAY’S ROSTER MOVES… Prior to today’s game the Giants have placed RHP Matt Cain on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to May 22) with a right hamstring strain…Cain will be eligible to come off the disabled list when the Giants return home to face the Mets on Friday, June 6…OF Juan Perez (#2) has been recalled from triple-A Fresno.

GIANT MAY… The Giants’ 19-8 (.704) record this month is the best mark in the bigs…with today being the final day in May, the Giants need a victory to secure their 20th win this month…since the Giants moved to San Francisco in 1958, they’ve won 20 games in a month just nine times, most recently in July 2010 ( won 20).
