THAT WAS A LONG ONE… Last night’s game was the longest, in terms of innings, between these two teams in almost exactly 21 years…the last Giants-Phillies game that went 14 or more innings occurred on July 23, 1993, a 2-1, 14-inning win for the Phillies in San Francisco…the last time these two teams played a game of at least 14 innings here in Philadelphia was on July 16, 1966, a 6-5 Phillies win in 15 innings (Elias).
FUN FACTS FROM LAST NIGHT… Last night’s game lasted five hours and 46 minutes and ended seven minutes before 1 a.m.
TONIGHT’S PITCHING MATCHUP… LHP Madison Bumgarner (11-7, 3.38) has won each of his last two starts and is coming
off a 9-1 win over the Marlins last Friday in which allowed just one run in 6.0 innings…
Bumgarner has gone 7-2 with a 1.94 ERA in 11 road starts this season and will pitch here
at Citizens Bank Park for just the second time in his career…RHP A.J. Burnett (6-9, 4.08) is
6-3 lifetime with a 2.30 ERA in nine starts against the Giants.
