The Giants had the the 1st Annual Gamer Day at AT&T Park today! The term “Gamer” is often said by Giants alumni and beloved broadcaster Mike Krukow, when describing women who love Giants baseball. Over the years, it has been formalized from the passion of millions of Giants fans all across the country. Today, special event ticket holders received early ballpark entry to a private Q&A session with Mike Krukow, leader of the movement, as well as a ticket to the game versus the Rockies. This “open-mic” event included baseball chatter, stories and entertaining anecdotes from Krukow, Giants players and coaches, and other Giants Gamer supporters.
It was a busy day at AT&T Park today. When the Reds and Giants were rained out on July 4th no one knew how strange it would get. Officially the second game tonight became the first game of a traditional doubleheader. In the second game the Giants were officially the away team, and wore the road grays, (but statistically the Giants were the “home team” for both games) so you could say the road team won both games tonight.
In case that wasn’t enough, the second game was the 100th of the season AND Bruce Bochy got his 1,500th career win. Only 20 managers have reached that milestone and 12 are in the Hall of Fame…among current managers, only Detroit’s Jim Leyland (1,731) and Cincinnati’s Dusty Baker (1,638) have more managerial wins than Bochy (1,500).
We have the best broadcasters in baseball, and earlier this month they were recognized by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences by winning Emmy Awards. David Koppett, Jeff Kuiper, Devon Fox, Joseph Washington, Dan Peterson, Jim Lynch, Dave Flemming, Duane Kuiper, Jon Miller and Amy G won for their broadcast of Matt Cain’s Perfect Game while Duane Kuiper, Mike Krukow and Amy G won for the On-Camera Talent division - Congratulations everyone!
