PENCE, POSEY IN THE CLUTCH… OF Hunter Pence (.360) and C Buster Posey (.338) own the third and fourth highest batting average in the NL, respectively, with runners in scoring position…Pence’s .360 average is the highest by a Giants player in a single season since Barry Bonds in 2006 (.423) (min. 100 PA).

GIANTS CLINCH WILD CARD SPOT… The Giants have clinched a wild-card berth after the Brewers lost 5-3 to the Reds earlier this afternoon in Cincinnati…SF has made the postseason for the third time in the past five seasons, having won the World Series in each of their prior two trips…the Giants have won their last seven postseason games and have won 21 of their past 29, dating back to 2010.

GIANTS-PIRATES OR GIANTS-CARDINALS… The Giants will play either the Pirates or Cardinals in the one-game wild-card round on Wednesday (site still TBD), with these last four games deciding home field advantage… SF trails the Pirates by 1.0 game for first wild-card position… however, the Pirates hold the tie-breaker for home field advantage should both teams end in a tie…Pittsburgh is just 1.5 games behind St. Louis for the NL Central crown and the Giants hold the tiebreaker for home-field advantage over St. Louis should both teams end in a tie.

HOME COOKING… The Giants have won 10 of their last 12 home contests and have been one of the best teams at home beginning July 30, going 14-5 (.737)…only the Cardinals (.759, 22-7) and Padres (.750, 21-7) have been better at home since that date among NL teams.

ON THE MOUND… RHP Yusmeiro Petit (5-5, 3.63) has gone 3-2 with a 3.08 ERA (13er, 38.0ip) in six starts at AT&T Park this season, compared to an 0-2 record and an 8.03 ERA (22er, 24.2ip) in five starts on the road…Petit is 1-3 with a 5.25 ERA in five starts against SD…RHP Andrew Cashner (5-7, 2.21) has won each of his last three starts, fashioning a 1.50 ERA (4er, 24.0ip)…he’s 2-1 with a 2.92 ERA in four starts against the Giants.
