ABOUT YESTERDAY… The Giants opened their 15th season at AT&T Park yesterday with a 7-3 victory over the Diamondbacks…yesterday’s win marked San Francisco’s sixth straight home opener victory, tied for their longest in franchise history.

BRANDON BELTING HOMERS… 1B Brandon Belt hit his fifth home run of the season yesterday to become the first Giant since Jose Cruz Jr. in 2003 to hit five home runs in the first eight games…Willie Mays is the only SF Giant to hit six-or-more home runs in the teams first nine games as he hit seven in the first nine games in 1964…1B Johnny Mize of the New York Giants hit six home runs in his team’s first nine games in 1947.

HUNTER PENCE… Already has three outfield assists, one more than he had all of last year.

LEADING THE WAY… OF Angel Pagan has hit safely in the first eight games on the year (15-for-34, .441)…since returning to the Giants lineup last season on Aug. 30 after injuring his left hamstring, Pagan has hit .354 (45-for-127) in 33 games, with the club going 20-13 in that span.

LEADING THE WAY… OF Angel Pagan has hit safely in each of the first six games on the year (11-for-27, .407), while driving in at least one run in five of the six contests…his eight RBI overall are tied for third most in the NL.

TIM HUDSON… Three-time All-Star is scheduled to make his 2nd start this season and his first in a Giants uniform in the home opener…Tuesday’s game will be his 429th appearance and his 428th start…signed by the Giants as a free agent, to a two-year contract, Nov. 19, 2013…has enjoyed a very successful career against the D-Backs, going 8-1 lifetime with a 1.99 ERA in 12 starts (one complete game)…his 1.99 ERA ranks as the second-lowest against Arizona among pitchers who have tossed at least 75.0 innings against AZ.

THE GIANTS… Moved into first place in the NL West yesterday after posting an 8-4 win here at Dodger Stadium…marks the first time SF has had sole possesion of the division lead since last May 16 (up 1.0 game on then second place Arizona, 6.0 up on LA).
