TONIGHT’S GAME…The San Francisco Giants visit the Arizona Diamondbacks in the middle game of this 3-game series…Giants’ left-hander Barry Zito (11-8, 4.33) will face D-Backs’ left-hander Wade Miley (15-9, 3.07).
THE GIANTS… Are a season-high 20 games over .500 for the 1st time since the end of the 2010 season (92-70)…SF’s high water mark in 2010 was 23.

BASES LOADED RESURGENCE…OF Hunter Pence hit a 3rd inning grand slam home run last night… the Giants entered Sept. with a .198 team batting avg. with the bases loaded, but they are batting .417 (5-for-12) with the bags full so far this month (Elias).
HUNTER’S RBI…Since joining SF on July 31, OF Hunter Pence has driven in 34 runs for San Francisco, the most on the team and the 7th-most in the Majors since the trade deadline…the other players to drive in more are Chase Headley, Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Hamilton, Alfonso Soriano, Miguel Cabrera and Ryan Howard.
BUSTER POSEY… Is batting .383 with 19 2Bs, 11 HRs and 47 RBI in 54 games since the All-Star break… His .383 avg. and .460 OBP lead the Majors since the break, while his .642 slugging pct. ranks 3rd and 47 RBI are the 6th-most.
SANTIAGO CASILLA… Recorded his 1st career Major League hit and RBI last night… Currently has a 13.2-inning scoreless streak, the 3rd-longest active streak in the NL.
A special congratulations to Derek Jeter for passing Willie Mays on the all-time hits list last night.

Melky Cabrera shows off his MVP Award
Tonight in Kansas City it was a Giants All Star Game. Matt Cain got the win for the National League in the 8-0 shutout and Pablo Sandoval tripled in the first inning to drive in 3 runs, including Buster Posey. Melky Cabrera didn’t do too badly either. For going 2 for 3 with a home run and driving in 2 runs, he won the Ted Williams MVP Award (ironically enough, the last Giants player to win the award was Bobby Bonds, in 1973, when the game was also held in Kansas City). Congratulations to our great fans who voted in the Stars of the All Star Game!
