THE GIANTS… Completed their ” rst homestand of the season, finishing with a 5-4 record against Arizona (1-2), Colorado (2-1) and Los Angeles (2-1)…SF hit .243 on the home stand while averaging 3.6 runs per game (32 runs)…the pitching staff fashioned a 2.93 ERA.


JEREMY AFFELDT… Made his 2014 debut yesterday, tossing 2.0-scoreless innings while allowing one hit.


GREGOR BLANCO… Has appeared in 13/16 games, mostly as a defensive replacement (two starts ; one in LF, one in CF).


HUNTER PENCE… Has started to heat up with five hits in his last 11 at-bats and has gone 9-for-27 (.333) in his past seven games.

MACHI’S WINS… With his third relief win last night, RHP Jean Machi is the first Giants pitcher since Bob Shaw in 1964 to have three relief wins this early into the season (15 team games).


THE GIANTS… Have gone 5-3 on this nine-game, 10-day home stand against Arizona (1-2), Colorado (2-1) and now Los Angeles (2-0)…a win today and they can earn their first sweep of the season and their first sweep over the Dodgers since also brooking them last season from May 3-5 here at AT&T Park.


PABLO SANDOVAL… Drove in the winning run last night with a RBI single in the 7th inning.


BRANDON BELT… Enters play today tied for the second most HRs in the Majors (5).

THE GIANTS… Improved to 7-4 on the season after defeating Colorado 6-5 last night…SF is 2-2 on this nine-game, 10-day homestand against Arizona (1-2), Colorado (1-0) and then Los Angeles (Tues-Thurs).

IN THE BULLPEN… The Giants’ bullpen has given up just five runs (three earned) in 28.0 innings pitched (0.96 ERA), covering their last nine games…the ‘pen has combined for 27 strikeouts in this span while issuing just six walks.

BUMGARNER’S SLAM… Last night, LHP Madison Bumgarner became just the second Giants pitcher to hit a grand slam since the team moved to SF in 1958, joining Shawn Estes, who accomplished the feat on May 24, 2000 vs. Montreal (off Mike Johnson)…Bumgarner also matched Estes, Dave Koslo, Hal Schumacher and Jack Scott for the most RBI (5) in a game by a Giants pitcher since 1914.
