The Best of the Best – Pitchers (1984-2012)

Since 1970 fans have been able to vote their favorite position players and last year Giants fans accepted the challenge and as The Sporting News put it, “MLB All-Star Game 20102: Giants fans know best; their guys lead NL rout”.  Voting has started to for the 2013 game so let’s keep the tradition going!

Between John McGraw managing the first All Star Game, to Bruce Bochy managing the next one, 88 players have represented the Giants in the Mid-Summer Classic.

From 1984 to last year the Giants had 12 All-Star pitchers, including 4 starters:

  1. Mike Krukow
  2. Rick Reuschel
  3. Jeff Brantley
  4. Rod Beck
  5. John Burkett
  6. Shawn Estes
  7. Robb Nen
  8. Jason Schmidt
  9. Tim Lincecum
  10. Brian Wilson
  11. Matt Cain
  12. Ryan Vogelsong

Mike Krukow & Duane Kuiper with Cornelius & Oliver

In honor of the 2002 Team Reunion coming up on July 1 we wanted to look back at some of the great moments during the 2002 season.  In August the SPCA brought some of their cats and dogs to the ballpark to do a photo shoot for the 2003 Giants/SF SPCA People and Pets Calendar.  Everyone took part in a crazy day of shooting that went from 9:45 to 5:45 and consisted of:

  • 28 pets running around the ballpark
  • 31 great photos which were used in the calendar
  • 40 players/coaches/Giants & SF SPCA employees getting the pets ready
  • More dog and cat kisses than we could count
