PANIK’S FIVE HITS… IF Joe Panik became the sixth Giants rookie to record at least five hits in a game last night, going a perfect 5-for-5 (all singles)…however, he did not score a run, record a RBI and had no extra base hits…at 23 years old, he became the youngest player with that line in any game since Hank Aaron in 1958 (Aug. 27, 1958 at SF) (Elias)…no player had ever recorded at least five hits without scoring or driving in a run since RBI became an offcial statistic in 1920 (Elias).

PETIT PUTTING UP HISTORIC STRIKEOUT/WALK NUMBERS… RHP Yusmeiro Petit struck out nine without issuing a walk in his complete-game 5-1 victory over the Diamondbacks last night…in nine games (three starts) since July 26, Petit has struck out 39 batters and issued just one walk…according to the Elias Sports Bureau, only two other pitchers in the modern era (since 1900) have recorded as many as 39 strikeouts and as few as one walk over any nine-game span…Greg Maddux had overlapping spans of 49/1 and 45/0 K/BB in 2001 and David Wells struck out 42 with just one walk over nine consecutive outings spanning the 2002 and 2003 seasons.
