BUMGARNER’S GAME FIVE SHUTOUT… LHP Madison Bumgarner tossed the World Series’ first shutout since Josh Beckett’s series-clincher for the Marlins against the Yankees in Game Six of the 2003 World Series… Bumgarner became the first Giants pitcher to throw a shutout in the Fall Classic since Jack Sanford against the Yankees in 1962…he also joined Christy Mathewson as the only Giants pitchers with multiple shutous in the same postseason.

ABOUT GAME FIVE… The Giants’ 5-0 blanking of the Royals on Sunday was their 16th shutout in World Series history, the second-most behind the Yankees’ 19 shutouts.

BUMGARNER’S STREAK SNAPPED… LHP Madison Bumgarner’s World Series scoreless innings streak ended at 21.0 innings last night…only six others had longer streaks in World Series history: Whitey Ford (33 innings), Babe Ruth (29 innings), Christy Mathewson (28 innings), Lew Burdette (24 innings), George Earnshaw (22 innings) and Sandy Koufax (22 innings) (Elias).

JAKE PEAVY… Is on his fourth career postseason roster, having also appeared in the postseason with the Padres in 2005 and 2006 and then winning a World Series ring with the Red Sox last season.

PABLO’S POSTSEASON ON-BASE STREAK REACHES 24… IF Pablo Sandoval has reached base safely in 24-straight postseason games (dating back to Game Four of the NLDS on Oct. 10, 2012), the longest streak in Giants franchise history…only three players in postseason history have a longer streak of reaching base: Miguel Cabrera (31, 2011-13), Chase Utley (27, 2007-09) and Boog Powell (25, 1966-71).

WILD CARD WORLD SERIES… The 110th edition of Major League Baseball’s championship series will pit two wild-card teams for the second time in baseball history…the Giants lost the other in seven games in 2002 to the Los Angeles Angels…the following teams have won the World Series as a Wild-Card team: Marlins (1997, 2003), Angels (2002), Red Sox (2004) and Cardinals (2011).
