TONIGHT’S GAME…The San Francisco Giants visit the San Diego Padres in the 1st game of this 3-game series…Giants’ right-hander Ryan Vogelsong (13-9, 3.58) will face Padres’ left-hander Andrew Werner (2-2, 4.64).

A NEW LEADER…C Buster Posey overtook Andrew McCutchen for the NL batting title race yesterday as Posey went 2-for-4 and McCutchen went hitless in 4 at-bats…Posey now leads the NL with a .333 avg. while McCutchen is 2nd with a .332 mark…the last Giants player to win the NL batting title was Barry Bonds in 2004 (.370)…in fact, since 1876, only 7 Giants players have won the NL batting crown and just twice since 1958 (both by Bonds).
Check out today’s complete game notes, which contain more stats than 6 Geese-A-Laying.

SCUTARO’S STREAK…IF Marco Scutaro enters tonight’s game with the longest active hitting streak in the Majors, having hit safely in a career-best 15 games…during this stretch he’s batting .452 (28-for-62) with 4 2Bs, 1 HR and 14 RBI…he’s just 16 hits away from 200 this season, but just 6 games remain on the regular season schedule.

AT AT&T PARK…The Giants finished their home portion of the schedule with a 48-33 (.593) record…the offense hit .267 (711-for-2,665) at home while averaging 3.8 runs per game (308 runs/81 games)…SF’s 31 HRs at home were the fewest they’ve ever hit at AT&T Park and the 3rd-fewest home HRs in SF-era history.

PABLO SANDOVAL… Is hitting .400 (12-for-30) over his last 9 games with 4 HRs and 11 RBI… Homered from both sides of the plate for the 1st time in his career on Sept. 20.

THE GIANTS…finished their 2012 home schedule yesterday with a 7-3 win against ARI, wrapping up a 10-game homestand with an 8-2 record vs. COL, SD & ARI.

SEPTEMBER TO REMEMBER…SF’s .708 (17-7) win pct. this month is tied with Atlanta for the best mark in the Majors…if the Giants were to win 3 more games this month it would be the 1st time they had 20 wins in a month since July 2010 (20-8)…the Giants haven’t had 20 wins in September since 2000 when they went 20-9.
